Post First mass Raspberry Pi workshop held in UK Reply with quote
The first Raspberry Jamboree was held last weekend in Manchester in a bid to bring coding know how to the classroom and head off a looming skills crisis in IT education.

The event provided hands on Raspberry Pi workshops and lectures to 350 teachers and educators.

It also provided a platform for an interactive debate on the future direction of IT in education and highlight how innovations such as Raspberry Pi are driving change in the existing curriculum.

Led by a panel including Professor Steve Furber (Principal designer of the BBC Micro), Pete Lomas (Raspberry Pi co-founder), and young, enthusiastic teachers, the debate was broadcast via a ticketed live video stream broadcast around the globe.

David Deventer, marketing director at CPC, which helped organise the event alongside Raspberry Jam, commented: "In this world of technology, it's not enough for students to only know how to switch on a pc and use basic office software; they need to understand the science behind it.

"With fantastic products like Raspberry Pi, which help students to learn code, we're halfway there – but we need to ensure that we're doing all we can to enable teachers to nurture these skills."
